The School is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Café Assistants to join our School for 2025 on a casual basis with the view to going permanent.

We are looking to employ two Café Assistants in 2025 and for the successful candidates they will be Reporting to the Cafe Manager, the primary function of the Café Assistant is to support the staff and students of the School in an efficient and effective manner to enable their delivery of our core purpose of teaching and learning.

The Café Assistant is responsible for assisting with the delivery of food, beverage and cleaning to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Waves Café.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Café Manager in all areas of the café, including the preparation of food, processing of student orders, stocking of fridges, freezers and storage areas, and the service and sale of items to students and staff.
  • Provide support for events including the preparation of catering, service to guests, and the set-up and pack-down of dining spaces.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, hygienic and safe work environment.
  • Place orders as directed and ensure that deliveries received are correct.
  • Assist in stock taking as required.
  • Be aware of and comply with all Foodsafe Regulations.
  • Understand and apply the Work Health and Safety requirements within a school environment.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties relevant to this role as directed by the Café Manager.


Essential Selection Criteria

  • Food preparation experience.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to build supportive relationships with students, displaying empathy and understanding of young people.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, interacting with a range of individuals.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Initiative, creative problem-solving skills and flexibility.
  • Knowledge of safe kitchen practices.
  • Able to apply safe manual handling techniques.
  • Discretion and confidentiality.
  • First Aid and CPR qualification.
  • Working with Children Check.


Desirable Selection Criteria

  • 1-2 years in a similar role.
  • Food Safe Certificate or similar.
  • Proficient in School software including Synergetic, SEQTA and MS Office.\
