Our guest speaker on 17th August was Priya Cooper, who overcame cerebral palsy to become one of Australia’s leading Paralympic swimmers. Priya won a staggering nine gold medals, two silver and broke two world records at the Barcelona Paralympics in 1992. She won the most medals of any Australian athlete at those games and was awarded an Order of Australia medal for her services to sport.

At the Atlanta Paralympics in 1996, she won five gold, one silver and one bronze medal and set three world records and five Paralympic records. During the Sydney 2000 Paralympics, Priya won a gold and three bronze medals. In 2015 she was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.

Priya was an inspiring speaker and motivated the students to dream and work towards achieving their goals and to never give up.
