Peter Moyes ACS is partnering with Amana Living to give the gift of music to a person with dementia.

Based on the US Music and Memory initiative, the Tune into Life program involves a trained music therapist creating personalised playlists for people living with dementia. The playlists are loaded onto iPods and played via earphones to shut out extraneous noise. The goal is to help older people living with dementia to unlock deep memories, as well as to reconnect with loved ones.

To see the program in action, you can watch Channel 7 news item via Facebook.

The program is being expanded and we are fortunate to be able to assist a local Amana Living residential care site in Kinross. Kinross Care Centre is a lovely home like environment, with 48 places for people living with dementia.

By partnering with Amana Living we are hoping to collect iPods for use in the program. We are also hoping to use the students’ wonderful knowledge of technology and offer them a unique experience to gain a meaningful insight into the lives of seniors.

We will be collecting iPods and donations throughout Term Three; however, we would like to collect 50 iPods by the end of week 6 to ensure that the necessary equipment is available to Kinross Care Centre.  These iPods are ideally Shuffles, but any old ones that you are no longer using will be greatly appreciated. Additionally, donations of iTunes cards would be gratefully received so that the songs for the playlists can be purchased.

Can you help us meet our goal of 10 iPods per week?

Donation boxes are in each of the sub-school receptions and also in the Main Reception.
