The Middle and Senior School Inter-House Cross Country Carnivals were held on Tuesday 28th March. The sun was shining and there was a slight breeze which allowed for excellent conditions for all runners. The use of Blue Chip Timing ensured all students received instant and accurate times. In addition, the use of the timing provided a professional spectacle with all students displaying their individual competitor numbers on their House shirts.

The course this year was a revised one and proved challenging for all.  Boys had to scale the hill on the western corner of the Northern Oval on five occasions and the girls four times. In the Senior School, students had the option to compete in either the Championship or Participation event. Both options allowed students to score points for their Houses.

The final point scores were very close in both events:  Cuthbert House were victorious in Middle School and in the Senior School Lingiari House recorded their first ever win in the Inter-House Cross Country event.

Results in the Inter-House Cross Country Carnivals form the basis for selection in the School’s Inter-School Cross Country Squad. Members of the Squad (Years 7-12) will compete in both the School Sport WA State Trials on Friday 19th May and the Associated and Catholic Colleges (ACC) Carnival on Thursday 1st June.  Mr. Streeter will provide further information about these Carnivals closer to their dates.

My thanks are extended to everyone to contributed to the success of the Carnivals: staff, especially those from the Health and Physical Education Department who helped set out the course, parent helpers and supporters and, most importantly, the students for their commitment and involvement.

Head of Health and Physical Education
