On the 22nd of May 2019, the two Year 9 Fashion and Fabrics classes and the Year 10 Textiles class made their way to Fremantle for the Kylie Minogue Costume Exhibition. We spent the morning inside the exhibition where a variety of Kylie’s costumes were on display. Alongside each costume was an information panel detailing when she wore the costume and who made the costume, as well as other details. What was incredible was that the mannequins that these costumes were on were actually moulds of Kylie’s body! This meant that the costumes fit perfectly and we could see exactly how they sat on Kylie herself. As well as her costumes, we also got to see the shoes she wore with each outfit and it’s safe to say that the majority of us were shocked by how small her feet were!

As we walked around the exhibition, a video was playing of Kylie’s performances at some of her shows over the years – this meant we were able to see the actual costumes on Kylie herself! Her head pieces in particular were mesmerising, and it was interesting to note that she wore the majority of these head pieces as she was recovering from breast cancer in 2006. The students were encouraged to take as many photos as they liked of the costumes, and at the end of the morning they were asked to find their favourite piece and photograph it from a variety of angles, as they would be writing about this costume in the weeks to come.

After our time at the exhibition, we walked into the heart of Fremantle for some lunch and were very blessed with wonderful weather. After lunch it was time to make the long journey back to Mindarie.

A very big thank you to Mrs Gilbert for organising this excursion – we appreciate the time and effort it took for this day to come together!
