In Semester Two, a dedicated and compassionate group of Year 8 and 9 students have been representing our School by making a wonderful contribution to their community through our Service Learning project. When proposed late in Semester One, the project sought interest from Middle School students to participate in visits to our local aged care facility Aegis Anchorage.

We were delighted with the response from students, who now meet with residents on a regular basis, sharing conversations about their lives and providing friendly and interested companionship.

Although the initial meetings were nervous, our students have displayed exceptional respect and politeness as well as a strong resolve to overcome any shyness or communication difficulties and are forging lovely friendships with their residents.

During the remainder of the year, our students will continue to meet and are compiling a collection of stories that reveal more about their new friend, their life and the student’s own reflections. The published book will be available for viewing in our School Library after first being presented to residents at our final visit for the year in December.
