On Thursday 27th July, Carina Van den Berg (Year 11) was selected as one of 10 finalists to cook-off for the Hospitality Group Training – Taste of the Future Competition.  This competition was sponsored by Oil2U with the winner receiving Training College fees of $5500 for a Chef Apprenticeship Scholarship.

Finalists were given 72 hours to design a dish using a required protein selected by the judging panel which consisted of Don Hancey (a WA Food Ambassador), Stephen Clarke (from Clarke’s of North Beach) and Paul Beard (the Executive Chef of Perth Arena).

Carina chose to make a chicken roulade stuffed with feta, sundried tomatoes and baby spinach leaves which was then rolled with prosciutto.

After tasting all dishes prepared by Year 11 and 12 students from various schools, Carina was awarded 3rd place.  This was the first time the School has entered the competition. Carina’s cuisine ranked above that prepared by students from schools that run hospitality courses and cook weekly for paying customers!

Well done Carina!
