Bridget Gallagher started off the athletics season injured, and it looked like she may have had to reduce her load or even sit the season out. Much to her credit, she focused on Personal Bests each week and continually showed excellent sportsmanship when fellow competitors would let her know they had beaten her.

Bridget ended up having an outstanding season! She won the Quinns Rocks Little Athletics U/12 Girls Club Champion and Most Improved. Bridget also won the Overall Club Girls Champion (U6 – U17) for the fourth year in a row. Additionally, Bridget won the Ridgewood U/12 Club Champion, Most Improved and U/12 Athlete Scholarship.

Ridgewood Little Athletics Centre is the Saturday Competition where Bridget’s club competes with other clubs (Mindarie, Clarkson, Yanchep, Butler). For the scholarship, a boy or girl in the U/12 age group is selected on criteria – usually State Championships results and other state events throughout the season. However, as these last championships were cancelled, the criteria was based on Zones Results and given her times, Bridget would have received a Silver Medal for Race Walking.

This scholarship pays for Bridget’s fees for the next season as well as private coaching in a selected event. At this age, U/12 State Development Squads are selected and at U/13, State and International Teams are selected.

This is a very exciting time for Bridget, and she is congratulated on all of her hard work and dedication. Well done Bridget!
