NMTAFE Course - School Skills

Starting in July 2019, North Metropolitan TAFE are running a one semester course on the skills required to be a successful candidate for employment in a school.  The course aids in preparation for entry into gardening, cleaning, administration, management, canteen and education assistant work.

We have had huge success supporting people to find work and the chances of gaining employment are strong.  This course is suitable for existing gardeners, cleaners, administrators etc., and people looking to change career or people looking for work.

The course includes:

  • Training in skills specific to the role you are interested in e.g. gardening, cleaning and IT skills
  • Work experience in a school or other organisation
  • Help and support to find work
  • Help accessing further training as required e.g. Certificate III in Education Support
  • Development of your job application cover letter, resume and help with selection criteria

Entry requirements:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Must be able to read procedures, safety sheets and chemical bottles
  • Successful completion of an entry interview
  • Working With Children Check and a Police Clearance

Course details:

  • 3 days per week - Starts Tuesday 23rd July finishes Friday 13th December (20 weeks)
  • Days - Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:15 until 2:45
  • Cost – Approximately $180 (total course fee for full 20 weeks)
  • Location - based in Leederville and on site

Access to myfuture website for Years 9 to Year 12

The School will be continuing its subscription to the myfuture website for Year 9 to Year 12 students.


You will be pleased to know that students are now able to share the results of the My Career Profile activities with their parents, teachers and trusted friends. Simply by clicking on the Export to PDF button under the Results tab, a summary of the completed activities will generate a report which students can save and either send as attachment or print if preferred. 

To assist our students, myfuture have created a series of short videos (or user guides ) with step by step instructions demonstrating the key sections of the website such as:

Sign up to myfuture,
Logging in,
My career profile,
Career Bullseyes, and much more.

The videos are all less than a minute long and they will be a good way for them to familiarise themselves with the site.

To use the site or to sign up they will need to create an account using their School email address. Please note you must type it as follows: username@petermoyes.wa.edu.au not @pmacs

School Based Courses – WA Academy

WA Academy can assist you in gaining one or more Certificate II or III qualifications to count towards WACE points.  Courses are available in Hairdressing, make-up artistry, beauty therapy and nail technology.  This is not a funded course – it is fee for service school based.

IIBT University Pathways – No ATAR Required

The International Institute of Business and Technology (IIBT) is a highly respected, Government approved Higher Education and VET provider of pre-university, first year University and English programs.

Once a student has received their year 12 graduation certificate, they are eligible to apply for the Diploma of Business Administration (Dip BA). This means that the option to go to University is still available for students with or without an ATAR result.

Alternatively, if a student has not graduated from high school, they may be eligible to enrol into the Certificate IV in Business that allows graduates direct entrance into the Dip BA and then second year studies.

On successful completion of the Dip BA, students are eligible to enter second year of a relevant Bachelor degree at one of IIBT’s partner universities including ECU, Curtin, Bond, Swinburne, UTAS, Wollongong and CQUniversity.
IIBT also offers a range of scholarships that not only award academic excellence but also provide financial support for students.

A Career in Veterinary Nursing
