Primary School

Welcome to the Primary School

In the Primary School, our focus is on building strong foundations in the core Learning Areas, while emphasising social skills, a strong sense of ethics and spiritual growth.

Our aim is to provide a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment which allows students to harness their natural curiosity, consolidate their skills and develop their character. We seek to equip our students with a strong academic platform and love of learning, while encouraging the development of a social conscience, lifelong Christian values and a healthy sense of self respect.

We value the partnership between parents, children and staff and believe that each partner plays an important role in the holistic development of the child. Our goal is for teachers and parents to work together to support, motivate and encourage each child to grow in both mind and heart, learning to value their own unique gifts as well as their connections and responsibilities to others.

We encourage our students to pursue our shared goal of “personal excellence, with compassion for others” and to embody the school values and beliefs in all aspects of their life, both in and out of school. Students are encouraged to develop resilience and a sense of personal responsibility whilst being nurtured in a supportive environment. We aim to instil in our students a strong sense of community and fairness, a passion for learning and a desire for excellence.


Primary School Structure

The Primary School caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. The School is double streamed from Kindergarten to Year 3, and triple streamed for Years 4, 5 and 6. Students remain with their class teacher for the core learning areas, moving to specialist teachers and facilities for Art, Music, Physical Education, Library and Languages Other Than English. We have the added benefit of Teacher Assistants working in all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The Primary School teachers work collaboratively across the year group, planning and programming together to ensure consistency and continuity.

The building is purpose built to best suit the needs of Primary Schooling, with facilities for small group work as well as larger groupings when required. The Kindergarten and Pre Primary area has a separate playground with age appropriate design and equipment, allowing for the specific gross motor needs of this age group.


Primary Schooling Philosophy

Our Primary School philosophy is based on the understanding that learning is a developmental process with each child’s rate of progress being individual and unique.

The Primary School classroom is characterised by enthusiasm, enjoyment, engagement, interaction, discovery and curiosity. It is a place where children can safely experience both success and sometimes failure, learn to take risks and develop their resilience. By providing an environment that is both secure and challenging, we equip our students with skills for success.

The Primary School provides the opportunity for each child to develop their potential – academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically. This opportunity is provided by offering a range of different learning activities, integrating experience, imagination, information and application. Literacy and Numeracy skills are of key importance.

Primary schooling is a time when children are transitioning from the security of the family to being a part of broader society. A strong partnership between school and home enhances the educational experience of the child as they manage this transition.
