On Tuesday 13th November, nine Primary Academic Extension students competed in the annual Academic All Stars contest against St James, Brighton Catholic and St Andrew’s Catholic Primary Schools. The contest is designed as a fun day, which presents some extremely challenging tasks.

First the students tackled ten minute rotations of activities, including Brainsnacks, English, Maths, Quizzles and Geography. Next was an Engineering challenge to create a form of motion using Lego sets, string, elastic and electric motors. The judges were amazed by the variety of types of motion and the creativity of the devices that were built. In between, there was morning tea to be enjoyed and a sausage sizzle lunch.

The final task was Drama, to create a one minute advert for an invented product or service from the acronym “IRD”. There were some highly persuasive and entertaining interpretations of the brief!

In the tightest contest for years, our three teams won the aggregate score to win overall, with Brighton Catholic having the top scoring team.
Many thanks to Mrs Adma Weda and Mrs Cormack who helped on the day.

Congratulations to our team members:

The Meteors: Isobel Fraser, Sam Bushell, Rachel Cormack
