In Semester 1 the Year 4 and Year 5 Academic Extension students participated in the CBCA’s Make Your Own Story Book Competition. They wrote, illustrated and manufactured their very own hard cover books with settings as diverse as during the Black Death, the inside of a fridge and the trenches of World War One.

Many congratulations to Ruth Duuring (Year 5) whose entry, “The Talented Mouse” was awarded first place in the Year 5 – 6 category.

Set in Paris in the era of Chopin, Ruth’s story features “A tiny mouse, a big piano and a famous composer”. Ruth’s book is imaginatively written, delicately illustrated and beautifully constructed.

On Sunday 25th October Ruth and her family attended the Award Ceremony at the Fremantle Literature Centre, where she met the other winners and was presented with her certificate and prize by Michael Speechley, West Australian author of The Gift and The All New Must Have Orange 430.
