On Saturday 26th August two teams of combined Year 5 and Year 6 students competed in the Tournament of Minds Regional contest, held at Edith Cowan University.

Both teams had chosen the same discipline, that of Maths/Engineering. The challenge was to design and construct a device to increase the probability of particular numbers being selected for a lottery draw, rigging the machine with a modification that could not be detected when operated. Their presentations had to demonstrate the device, with and without the modification, and the calculation of improved probability also had to be woven into the play.

The judges were most impressed by the creative and ingenious manner in which our teams solved this highly complex challenge as well as the manner in which they disguised the secret modifications.

For the first time, both of our Primary teams are now progressing to the Tournament of Minds State Final on Sunday 10th September.

Congratulations to the following Team Members:

  • Year 6: Liam Prosser, Brady Reynolds, Amber Lawson, Bronte Scaife, Ryan MacDonald, Ben Williams, Amelie White, Mitchell Briggs
  • Year 5: Jack Slade, Toby Murphy, Dion Gilling, Kayley Johnson, Teagan Edwards, Sophie Byrne
