On Wednesday of week four, Peter Moyes entered two teams in an academic competition hosted by Northshore Grammar School. Having given the students freedom to choose teams, they chose a distinctly boys versus girl theme – with the winning team receiving slushies from the losers. With this motivation in mind, both teams gave their absolute all on the day.

Competing in events from English and Poetry through to Math, Lateral Thinking and Design and Construction, our teams were consistently competitive. More than that, they showed impressive maturity, respect and team-work in each event.

In the end, our girls’ team, comprised of Erin Wilkinson, April Gomm and Lauren Adam finished first in the Math’s event and second in two others, while our boys team, comprised of Hadyn Hawkins, Brady Reynolds and Ben Williams, won the Design and Construction event and finished second to the girls in math. To top off this already excellent showing, our girls team won the entire competition as well.

Not only did our teams show excellent academic abilities and team work on the day, they were also incredibly mature and inclusive, highlighted by our boys starting a basketball game against students from the host school with students from several of the competing schools on their team.

“It was a really enjoyable occasion, and we were all glad to be able to experience it. In particular, we enjoyed the healthy competition against the other schools, and each other, of course.” Brady Reynolds (Year 7.6)

“It was a great experience and I am super proud of the whole team.” Erin Wilkson (Year 7.2)

All in all, it was a highly successful day and we look forward to defending our win next year.
